ブエノスアイレスのレコレータ墓地を訪れて、感動したことがありました。それは、故人を悼む想いが、お墓の造形に込められ、表現されていたことです。正直なところ、それまでお墓そのものに興味をもったことがなかったのですが、初めて、お墓って良いなと思うようになりました。そして、殺虫剤メーカーの一員として害虫を殺しながらも、彼らに愛着もありその写真を撮るぼくは、害虫のお墓もしくは碑をつくって万感をぶつけるべき、そしてぼくの撮る写真はきっと彼らの遺影のような存在、そんな気がしてきました。

I was deeply moved by the graves of Recoleta. Each of them expressed mourning in artistic manner. I had never been interested in graves, but the visit really changed my mind. I need to build a grave for the ants and pests I have killed through my job in a pesticide company, but at the same time have liked. And I realized that my photos are like portraits of deceased persons.
