ボーナスで、ギンザシックスの蔦屋書店にあった田淵行男写真集（ヴィンテージ）を購入しました。ケースから取り出すと、表紙からして異世界。引き込まれます。そして、冒頭の「はじめに」の文にじ～んと来ました。「この蝶を眺めて十年になる。・・・（中略、全文はコメント欄を参照）・・・物事を究めることは愛することであってほしいと思う。」

田淵行男氏は、ぼくにとっては大学の恩師の憧れの人、あるいは子供の頃からの憧れの人の先生なので、遠い先生のような存在です。恥ずかしながら30代になるまでお名前を存じ上げなかったのですが、今では、氏から脈々と受け継がれてきた影響を、自分も享受してきたことを、はっきりと感じることができます。

ぼくはこの本を持っているに値する人間かどうか分かりませんが、大切に勉強して、将来、引き継ぐべき人が現れたら引き継ぐようにしたいと思います。

June is a season of bonus in Japan, and this time I used my bonus for a vintage photo book by Yukio Tabuchi. It was published in 1950s and I found one in GINZA SIX, which is a new landmark of Ginza, Tokyo. Everything about the book is fascinating, Just taking the book out of its green sleeve and looking at the cover makes me feel like slipping to another world. I was also impressed by the preface.

Yukio Tabuchi is the father of nature photography in Japan. He influenced my supervisor in the university and was the master of my favorite photographer. This means that he has indirectly influenced me, and I can actually feel it.

I'm not sure if I am a person worth keeping this valuable book, but I'm sure I'll be inspired by this book and I'll hand it over to someone to pass the soul of Yukio Tabuchi to future generations.
