ヒアリのニュースに続いて、南米の調査記から脱線しすぎの感がありますが、週末にオーストラリアからアリのシャツが届いたので、日記を書きます。Jimmy Stuartというメーカーがつくっているもので、オーストラリアのツムギアリ（緑色の体色が特徴）柄の刺繍が全体に施されています。 2008年にオーストラリアへアルゼンチンアリやヒアリの調査・視察に行った際、たまたま見つけて購入したのですが、買ってすぐに乾燥機に入れて縮ませてしまうという痛恨のミスを犯し、サイズがちんちくりんになっていました。 数ヶ月前、ネット通販で購入できることを知り、どうしようかな～と思っていましたが、意を決して9年ごしに新品を購入しました。左が新品、右が以前購入したものです。びっくりするほど右のものが縮んでいるのが分かります。測ったら袖が11cmも短くなっていました！ よく見ると、新旧で仕様がいろいろと違うことに気がつきました。たとえば旧版のほうが生地が黄色っぽい。また、アリの刺繍の数は旧版のほうが多いです。ボタンの種類やサイドタック、背ダーツの有無にも違いがあります。 アリのシャツなんて、なかなか売れなさそうですが、昔売られていたものがまだ存続していて、しかも年月の経過とともに少しずつアップデートされてきたのだと思うと、作り手の思い入れのあるモデルなのだろうと想像でき、感慨深いものがあります。 

I know I'm digressing too much from the story of my experience in Argentina, but I'm uploading photos of ant shirt which I received from Australia this weekend. It's a product of a company named Jimmy Stuart. Needlework of Australian weaver ant is done all over the shirt.

I first bought this shirt in 2008 when I visited Australia for research, but I made a terrible mistake of pushing it to drier. As a result, the shirt shrunk very much and no longer fit me.

I found that the shirt could be purchased online, so I ordered new one. The left one on the photo is new, whilst the right one old. To my surprise, the old one shrunk by 11cm!!

There are several differences in specification between the two. The color of cloth, number of needlework, button, presence/absence of tuck and dart, etc.

I assume ant shirt is not popular. However, Jimmy Stuart has kept on selling and updating the model. I'm impressed by their passion toward the model.
